Which LinkedIn Post Size Should You Use?
LinkedIn gives you three image orientations for feed posts, and the one you pick changes how much space your content takes up in someone's feed. That matters because more screen real estate means more eyes on your post before they scroll past.
Landscape (1200 x 627 pixels, 1.91:1 ratio) is LinkedIn's original post size. It works well when you're sharing a link preview or an announcement where the text does most of the work. The image sits wide and short, which is fine on desktop but leaves a lot of empty space on a phone screen. If engagement is your goal, landscape is usually your weakest option.
Square (1080 x 1080 pixels, 1:1 ratio) is the safest choice when you aren't sure which format to use. It renders well on both desktop and mobile, looks clean for infographics and quote cards, and takes up noticeably more feed space than landscape. Most creators default to square when they want something quick and consistent.
Portrait (1080 x 1350 pixels, 4:5 ratio) takes up the most feed space on mobile - and since roughly 60% of LinkedIn traffic comes from phones, that extra height translates directly into longer view times. Portrait is the format most top creators use for their highest-performing posts. It's the best LinkedIn post size if you're optimizing for engagement.
For carousel posts (document shares), use 1080 x 1080 square slides. They render consistently across desktop and mobile without any cropping surprises. You can go portrait at 1080 x 1350 for more mobile impact, but keep text inside the center 880 x 1150 safe zone so nothing gets clipped. LinkedIn accepts PDF format up to 100 MB and 300 slides, though the engagement sweet spot is 5 to 10 slides per carousel.
Video posts work best at 1920 x 1080 (landscape 16:9) or 1080 x 1080 (square). Portrait video at 1080 x 1350 or full vertical 1080 x 1920 is supported too. Keep videos under 30 seconds for the highest completion rates. LinkedIn accepts MP4 files up to 5 GB, with a length limit of 15 minutes on desktop and 10 minutes on mobile.
All post images have a 5 MB file size limit and accept JPG, PNG, and WebP formats. If you're uploading multiple images in a single post (up to 20), use the same aspect ratio for all of them to avoid inconsistent cropping. LinkedGrow's AI image generator creates images at the correct LinkedIn post size automatically, so you don't need to resize anything manually.

LinkedIn Image Best Practices
Getting the dimensions right is just the start. These tips will help your images perform better in the feed.
Design for Mobile First
Most LinkedIn users scroll on their phones. Portrait images (4:5) and square images (1:1) take up more screen space on mobile and consistently outperform landscape images for engagement. When in doubt, go vertical.
Respect Safe Zones
Mobile devices crop banners and cover images aggressively. Keep logos, text, and important visuals within the center 80% of any image. For profile banners, avoid the lower-left corner where your profile photo sits.
Optimize File Size
Smaller files load faster in the feed, which matters on mobile networks. Use JPG for photographs and PNG for graphics with text or transparency. Compress your images before uploading without sacrificing quality.
Test Desktop and Mobile
What looks perfect on your desktop monitor might be cropped differently on a phone. Check your images on both devices before posting. This is especially important for banners and multi-image posts where the grid layout changes.
