Writing Tone
Describe your preferred writing tone so the AI generates LinkedIn content that sounds like you.
What is the writing tone setting?
The writing tone controls the overall feel of AI-generated content. It determines whether your posts sound professional, casual, humorous, or somewhere in between. Combined with voice training and your business description, tone helps produce content that feels authentically yours.
How it works
The Writing Tone setting is a free text input field where you describe, in your own words, how you want your content to sound. There are no predefined options -- you have full control over the description.
The placeholder text reads:
e.g., Professional but friendly, conversational, inspiring, direct and bold
You can write anything that captures the voice you want. A short phrase works, or you can be more detailed if you prefer.
How to set your tone
- Go to Settings
- Find the Writing Tone text field
- Type a description of your desired tone
- Click Save
Your tone description applies to all AI-generated content going forward.
Writing an effective tone description
Be as specific as you like. Here are some examples:
- "Professional but friendly" -- Polished without being stiff, warm without being too casual
- "Conversational and witty" -- Like talking to a smart friend over coffee
- "Direct and bold, no fluff" -- Straight to the point, confident, assertive
- "Inspiring and motivational" -- Uplifting language that encourages action
- "Educational and clear, like a teacher explaining to beginners" -- Structured, patient, jargon-free
- "Casual and relatable, like a founder sharing lessons" -- Down-to-earth storytelling
You can also combine qualities: "Professional but not boring, uses analogies, occasionally funny" gives the AI a nuanced picture of your voice.
Choosing the right tone
Consider your audience and goals:
- Building authority? Try "authoritative, educational, backed by data"
- Building community? Try "conversational, question-asking, warm"
- Standing out from the crowd? Try "bold, provocative, challenges conventional thinking"
- Inspiring action? Try "motivational, story-driven, energetic"
Most LinkedIn creators find that a friendly, conversational tone performs best because it feels human and approachable. Overly formal content tends to get less engagement on the platform.
How tone interacts with other settings
Tone works together with:
- Voice training -- Your sample posts provide the base style, and tone adjusts the mood
- Business description -- Provides context for industry-appropriate language
- Target audience -- Ensures the tone matches what your audience expects
